Read Only Memory (ROM) :

ROM or Read Only Memory is a permanent memory of computer. We can only read the program written in it. ROM is the primary memory of the computer. It is used in various devices such as mobile, laptop, tablet, computers, smartwatch, washing machines and robots etc.
The data present in ROM is permanently stored. This memory is called non-volatile memory of the computer. The ROM has BIOS(Basic Input Output System) and firmware software installed. Due to ROM, computer or mobile are able to boot. In ROM, the program is written in binary form.

There are three main types of ROM :

  1. PROM is an acronym of Programmable Read Only Memory. This chip is also known as OTP(One Time Programmable) chip. It can be written only once and then it can never be erase.
  2. EPROM is an acronym of Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. The data stored in this chip can be erase by passing ultraviolet ray for 40 minutes and program it again but the power consumption is high during this process.
  3. EEPROM is an acronym of Electrical Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. The data in this chip can be erase by the electric signal and can be reprogrammed them. EEPROM is also called Hybrid Memory
